RoCSIRT (RoEduNet Computer Security Incident Response Team [1]) is the first public CSIRT [2] service in Romania. RoCSIRT and the service team have been accredited by Trusted Introducer [3], organization that provides accreditation services to CSIRT’s operated by NREN’s or by other entities in Europe.
RoCSIRT accreditation is a recognition of the level and the quality of services offered by RoCSIRT. RoCSIRT services operate according to European standards monitored and controlled by IT. The accreditation of the service operated by the Romanian Agency ARNIEC / RoEduNet RoCSIRT integrates the team in a community of specialists that provides information management incidents of all kinds. Communication between members of the European community of TI and RoCSIRT, provides access to sensitive information in a timely manner on incidents of security, which contributes to improving or eliminating the effects of these incidents on the RoEduNet network and to the networks of academic and research institutions connected to RoEduNet.
Also, information obtained in the IT community are used to alert institutions members of RoEduNet about the vulnerable systems that are the target or source of information attacks. In addition, ensures, in order, information and coordination of CSIRT teams at European level in the case of distributed attacks in order to isolate and eliminate the sources of the attacks continuing with investigation and development of measures needed to prevent their recurrence.
The accreditation of RoCSIRT was carried out between April to July 2009 and ended with the admission of RoCSIRT team in the European TI community whose purpose is to prevent and limit the effects of information attacks. Taking ito account that Romania is not on a good position in the country cyber crime reports we are convinced that the RoCSIRT service will contribute to improving the country rank.
About us:
RoCSIRT is the first service of its kind in the country and was established as a operational service within the Agency for Administration of National Computer Network of Informatics for Education and Research (ARNIEC [4]) in December 2008. The main goal of RoCSIRT is to handle and prevent security incidents. An important role in RoCSIRT is the specialized assistance to institutions connected to RoEduNet and informing the public to recognize and avoid a possible security incident.
Trusted Introducer organization is a organization under the umbrella of TERENA [5], who aims to develop a web of trust and the means of reliable and secure communications, which will be used for CSIRT teams across Europe.
